Closets and Shelving
Closets
Closets are where most builders skimp. They just put in the old school wire shelving. If you have to go this route then get the kind that is supported from a top rail..meaning, a rail runs the entire length of the closet and then horizontal members that hang down from it with the wire shelving attached to it. This is the best way to support the most weight and we do like to overload them, right? I do also like the ELFA system from the Container Store. Although more expensive, it is user friendly, has many options and this system also hangs from a top rail.
Shelving and Customs
I get a lot of questions about shelving and custom work.
Custom work is extremely expensive. If you have the money and time to wait, you are most likely not contacting me but a cabinet maker/carpenter. I am a cost conscious person, so I'm always looking for a deal. Etsy has some great craftsmen that sell custom shelving. You can choose the wood, style, and design. They may also be able to customize if you ask. The thing to look for when you are purchasing shelving is how it is mounted. We have all seen shelves that look like everything is about to slide off, right? Well, you want an integral metal support frame/system built into your shelving. This typically looks like a flat piece of metal with screw holes drilled into it with two or three pieces of round dowels welded onto it. The metal bracket gets affixed to the wall and then you slide the wood shelf over the metal dowels.
I'm a Resource
Before you Buy, call me with any questions, send me a link or site pic as I can tell you what will work and won't before you get it home. Even if I can't do the job myself, I will always make time to answer a question or give some advice.
